Our bug hotel is officially open!

Our bug hotel is officially open!

Happy new year to all our lovely supporters of the farm! We had some great news last week that all of our ewes are pregnant so we will be lambing again in March! This will be our third time lambing but with only four ewes this year. All being well we will then lamb all 9 of our ewes in 2018 which will hopefully result in lots more lambs for us to look after!   The frosty mornings make everything sparkle at the farm and in turn we usually get a lovely get sunrise to match! The frost also means…

Bursting Vege Beds

Bursting Vege Beds

The vegetable beds are bursting with produce this time of year and the team have a busy time keeping naughty pigeons and bugs from eating all their hard work! Red currants (above) and raspberry (below) will all head into Berrys Cafe and be made into yummy jam!   The sprouts and broccoli are looking fantastic . We have almost eaten all of the broccoli! Check out the size of the onions! Speaking of size check out our not so little lambs now! They are now in the top field and have been weaned so that the ewes can have…

BBQ season

BBQ season

Check out how the BBQ area now looks! In true British fashion as the concrete arrived the rain came down! Luckily it stopped not long after to allow the concrete to set! A huge thank you must go to Eamon McEvilly from EP McEvilly Contractors Ltd who organised all of the concrete and the brick work. Knowle and Doritch rotary club continue to support the farm massively and recently invited two project workers along to Copt Heath golf club as part of their fundraising activities for local charities. Both of the project workers gave a small speech and thoroughly enjoyed themselves!  …

The help is coming from all over and this time we were joined by staff from Lloyds banking group. They joined us on Tuesday to continue on some of the large projects started last week as well as continuing to help us with other projects at the farm! Check it out - Work on the new pig area has begun with removing some of the old fence posts which create a boundary to the farm field. Pigs are very good escape artists so we wanted to make sure that the boundaries are super strong to keep them in! Still working…

JLL come to the farm!

JLL come to the farm!

JLL (who provide professional real estate services/ investment) came to the farm in force last Friday! Over 55 people came to the farm to help us crack on with some massive jobs! Check out what they have been up to... One team began log splitting our huge pile of logs so that the split wood can be seasoned through the summer and will be ready to use in the log boiler to heat Berrys Cafe in the winter. They filled a whole log bay! Weeding the vegetable beds is always an ongoing task as weeds just love growing in our well…

January Blues? Not here!

January Blues? Not here!

Hello everyone and welcome to 2016! As always there is lots to show you! To begin here are some fantastic sun rises/ sun sets at the farm which have taken place over the past week. Cheese the cat has been up to his usual naughty antics! He managed to jump up onto Jimbo and proceeded to fall asleep! Jimbo must be a comfy cushion (but not a very clean one!). The farm got a sprinkle of snow on the weekend which is when we put our hay to good use. The horses enjoyed all the extra food which makes the…

November at the farm

November at the farm

We missed an October blog! Woops! As always another busy month at the farm has come and gone in the blink of an eye! The wood work groups have been busy making also sorts of spooky props ready for the Family Care Trust Halloween ball which was held on 31st October. I think you will all agree that they made a fabulous job of setting the stage for the night! The barn has looked very haunted with all these grave stones! Not to miss out on some Halloween fun we also decided to have a Halloween party at the farm!…

Vodafone at the farm

Two weeks ago a group of 25 employees from Vodafone came to the farm to once again generously give their time to help develop and complete some projects at the farm. The beach garden, decking, and some new staging for outside the green house were all on the agenda with everyone splitting into three teams. The weather was incredibly hot which made the tasks even more challenging! The decking is now all-weather proofed for another year and looks great for all the events which will be taking place at the farm throughout the summer. The fencing also had a freshen…

Braving Mother Nature!

Mother Nature decided to test us all in our preparation on sales day with torrential down pours all morning! However she sorted it out by the afternoon and we had a nice dry time welcoming everyone to the farm to see what we get up to and to purchase some of the things the project workers have been making/ growing. Thank you to all that came and gave your support! We couldn't do it without you and it means so much to the project workers to be able to show you what we do at the farm and for all…
