Wood Work

Crafting Confidence, Building Futures

At Newlands Bishop Farm, our woodwork program offers adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions the chance to engage in hands-on carpentry activities, fostering personal growth and community involvement.

Hands-On Learning in a Supportive Environment

Within our dedicated woodwork barn, project workers collaborate with experienced staff to create a variety of handcrafted items, including:

  • Planters
  • Benches
  • Animal hutches
  • Custom wedding décor

These items are available for purchase through our shop in Berry’s Café or can be custom-ordered, providing project workers with the opportunity to see their work appreciated by the wider community.

Skill Development and Practical Experience

Project workers gain experience using a range of tools—such as hammers, saws, drills, routers, and jigsaws—under the guidance of our skilled staff. This hands-on approach helps develop:

  • Practical Skills: Understanding tool use, safety protocols, and construction techniques.
  • Life Skills: Enhancing responsibility, teamwork, and time management.
  • Confidence: Achieving personal goals and contributing to the farm’s success.

Beyond the Workshop

The woodwork team’s contributions extend across the farm, including:

  • Maintaining and repairing farm infrastructure, such as fencing.
  • Constructing new features, like woodland covers.
  • Assisting with maintenance tasks at the Family Care Trust’s Dementia Day Centre and Supported Living schemes.

These activities provide real-world experience and reinforce the value of their work within the community.

Come visit us, meet the team, and see the difference Newlands Bishop Farm can make.

    Hi,

I heard that you do amazing wood work projects here and I wandered if you might be able to help with centre pieces for my wedding. My fiancé absolutely loves wood and would like wooden centre pieces if possible and anything else like signs etc. would much rather buy from you than anywhere else so would be great if we can!
