Berry’s cafe news…

We have now finally got a date for the electricity to be finished for Berry's cafe! Woohooo! For those of you that don't know, when the new building was finished there was a shortage in the electricity needed to supply it. This has meant that all the lovely food we have been eating so far has been cooked using only one oven, stove and microwave! The electricity will  make a huge difference to the running of the kitchen and will result in  it being open to the public for meals as well. The photo below is when work started back in June…

Beetles and Basil…

Olympic fever has hit the farm and lunch times now include lots of discussions on how many medals we have won and who is competing that day. The excitement has really created a buzz, so much so there was talk about basil being prepared to go to the olympics! You can see his reaction to the news below.... Bath Time!

Well what a week weather wise! Some brilliant sunshine lit up the farm and it finally felt like summer time! (although whilst I'm writing this the rain is currently torrential!) The sunshine has perked up all of the plants at the farm, and the cottage garden created by Amlin 2 years ago is thriving. The poly tunnels are full of tomatoes and cucumbers, as well as some other veg including pak choi. Some of the horses had a nice refreshing bath this week to help keep the cool. Hibernation…

Its been another week of us trying to hide from the weather! The plus side of this is that the show jumps have all received a welcome lick of paint and are now looking nice and bright in the field. We even had time to add some cool designs to some of the planks! On Thursday 18 Reynolds Cross School students came to visit the farm and have some lunch in Berry's Cafe. Sun bathing chickens and pots of potatoes!

I think everyone was as shocked as we were at the lovely day we had yesterday! We actually managed to do some fun things like grooming the horses, who are some where in between growing their winter coat early and trying to get rid of it again as soon as the sun's out! We even managed to do the gardening round in our t-shirts! The chickens also took  advantage of the weather and indulged in a group sunbathing session ... We are back to normal today though and are in our waterproofs from head to toe again! We are starting…

Boat anyone???

Well the weather is definatley testing out everyone's patience here at the farm! None of us know whether to wear waterproofs or sun cream! But as always there has been lots to do an its been yet another busy week. Firstly a huge thank you to a group of seven Lloyds bank staff who came to the farm to volunteer last week! Planters, Pies and Poly Tunnels…

The planters are all ready for their new home and will be taken early next week. Three of the horses had a visit from the vet this week to have some dental checks done which they weren’t overly keen on! Our smallest horse Miss Marple was by far the naughtiest and after some spectacular acrobatics in the stable we decided to give her a small amount of sedation to help her calm down! A magic wand is waved around the farm…

Despite the weather last week was full of productivity at the farm. The NEC maintenance team came in for the week to help continue renovating the cabin located down the end of the farm ready for it to evolve into an outdoor children’s nursery. It appeared to be transformed from an ugly duckling to a swan and now looks fantastic. Many thanks to the team that came for their time and all their hard work and expertise! IMI (an engineering company) also came on mass to the farm on Thursday with over 65 people coming to help with various jobs…

A busy week so far!

Its been a busy week so far at the farm. On Tuesday a group of staff from RBS came to the farm to help start renovating one cabins which will soon house a new outdoor nursery.  The small tractor was in full force being used to transport materials to and from the cabin. Preparations are underway for the bank holiday weekend including extra poopicking to make sure the field is squeaky clean before the four day break! 100m sprint…

After a much needed bath in the heat on tuesday, we decided it would be nice for the shetlands to dry off in the sunshine in their old paddock around the orchard. They were enjoying the grass and settled well, so we all returned back to the farm for a nice peaceful lunch....
