Friday saw the arrival of National Grid coming on site to help with a few projects on the farm. The team spirit was evident from the offset and all of the sub groups cracked on with their individual tasks. Whilst one team helped to re-vamp the poly tunnels with new top soil and growing bays another was creating new cold frames to go along side the poly tunnels to help grow on summer plants. Another group was painting the manage fencing in preparation for its new surface to be put down soon. At the end of the farm another group was busy…

The sun has finally shone today and so we decided to be optimistic about the chances of it staying by putting out our brand new decking furniture! This means that we can now fully utilise our fantastic decking area! However it was at the sacrifice of one of our stables as it is now full of the cardboard and wrapping it came in, woops!Some of us found the whole process so tiring that we had to take a quick snooze.....

Here's a picture of the delicious home made pasties that warmed us all up at the farm during lunch, none of the food got tagged with a football name today! The chickens have settled in to their new pen really well with even Dawson (my dog) unintentionally testing the electric fence! Its definitely safe to say that it works, poor lad! The landscape gardening project is coming along really well, with the base for the glass house being put down today. Monday has come around quickly and the sunshine has definitely been welcomed at the farm today! The chickens have now been evicted from the stables and have moved into their new and improved run! Not surprisingly it’s much easier trying to get the electric fence to work around it when there isn’t torrential rain stopping you! Several planters are being sanded down and restored ready to be stained and delivered. As well as the old planters getting a new lease of life, groups are also helping to make six new planters. An unfortunate side effect of sanding down the planters…

The tractor out in force during yesterdays field make over!

This morning the farm field has been harrowed again in preparation to be re-seeded this afternoon. The tractor is hooked up to the roller ready to roll as soon as the last bit of grass seed has been sown (although this may take some time!). Aside from the group helping in the field other groups have been equally busy so far today. Some have been out mowing on the gardening round, tackling the spring grass whilst others have been in the kitchen helping to prepare a much needed lunch of mushroom soup and cottage pie. Spring is in the air at the farm with new growth all around us. We had some new additions to the farm today with the discovery of a stray cat raising her two kittens under the pallets in the hay store!
