Summer time!

Wow time is flying and it has been over two months since we last blogged! Apologies! As usual the farm is a hive of activity and it continues to go from strength to strength. We have had groups from EE and from N Power join us since we last blogged to come and lend us a helping hand all over the farm! Thanks to the groups we now have a beautifully weeded veg patch, newly stained patio furniture and decking. It takes a massive amount of effort to do all of these tasks and on behalf of everyone at the…

Many Thanks!

The year is flying so fast that we forgot to post a blog for March! Woops! So lots to update you on in this blog... Two weeks ago the farm was lent a helping hand from Workman (Park management), Honeywell, Securitas, Service Master, Integrias Landscapes and Kingcombe Aquacare from Birmingham Business Park who joined us for the day to help us with some jobs. The team split into three with one group putting up the summer house which we moved from CGS, another group took on the endless task of painting the fencing around the farm, and the final group…

February is flying!

Well we have just about managed to squeeze a quick blog into february! Where has the year gone already?! In our last blog we told you about our plans for the aviary and wow how much have we done since then! The project workers worked incredibly hard to make sure that the slab base was all taken up and re-laid perfectly level. They did a fantastic job and we seemed to pick a good time to do it as we managed to avoid the rain (shocking!). The company that built the aviary for us kindly offered to put it up…

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! As always we are starting the new year full steam ahead and have started a few new projects! This includes our new aviary. We have been very fortunate and Solihull Lions have kindly donated £680 for us to build the aviary and fill it full of birds! We are looking to fill the aviary with either budgies or zebra finches and canaries! The choice lies with the project workers who are yet to vote on it! To make way for the new addition we have taken down (demolished) the old shed next to the hay store…

BMW come to the farm!

This Tuesday a lovely group of BMW employees joined us at the farm to create a 'living fence' for us at the back of Berry's Cafe. The living fence will be planted with lots of herbs and edible plants which the cooking team can use in the lovely meals they make for us at the farm. The team did a fantastic job and the area is being planted as this is typed! We would like to say a huge thank you to the team as not only did they do a great job they also raised £400 for the materials…

Wet, windy and its almost winter….

Sorry for the quiet times on the blog! The farms internet has been very temperamental in all the wet/ windy weather so its been difficult to get online! The upside to all the wet weather is that we have seen some great rainbows over the farm in the last two weeks! As always the farm continues to be busy in all areas. The gardening team are starting to begin their winter contracts as the grass has almost stopped growing.  Winter work includes small landscaping jobs, hedge cutting and leaf collecting. It also includes lots of log splitting so that we…

Well so much has happened since the open day its hard to keep track! In conjunction with the Calvert Trust the farm was host to a camping weekend for project workers! The weather warmed up again just in time and a fantastic time was had by all! Camping began on friday night, and saturday consisted on canoeing up to Knowle and back. I think the campfire was much deserved on Saturday night as were the bacon sarnies on Sunday morning! The farm has become an apple juice making machine thanks to the guys in the horticulture groups. It's a real team effort…

Open day success!

Well Friday 13th turned out to be a lucky one for us! When preparing in the morning the sky threatened to rain a couple of times and had us worried but it came up trumps and gave us a perfect afternoon. It felt like one of our busiest open days yet with lots of activities for all to get involved in. The horses behaved in their displays (phew) and stood perfectly for people to come and have a go at grooming them. The farms home-made apple juice was a huge success with all of it being sold on the day! We…
